History In the Making
This year, we were fortunate enough to learn the governmental issues in America. While doing so, we were simultaneously seeing history go down as one of the most controversial elections of the century. During class, one thing I always looked forward to were current events. They resemble some of the topics that we would be going over in class such as the debates they go over. They also kept us updated with the upcoming elections and polls. As a result, once we hit interest groups and political parties I immediately intrigued.
This was probably one of my favorite units of the year because it was something that currently happens in our government. Unlike cases that took place or disputes, the interest groups opened up new definitions that give us a better understanding of exactly the role they take. Before, I had little understanding as to what interest groups were. But the more I learned about lobbying, electioneering and other tactics they use, I learned that although we live in a democratic society, most of the power is derived from these interest groups and political parties. For that, it gave me a new understanding as to what really happens behind closed doors.
